Visitors To Downtown Able To Pay For Parking Via Cell Phone
Time Can Be Added To Meters Through Apps
If a business meeting runs long or the line is a little longer than you thought at your favorite lunch spot you won’t have to run outside to feed the parking meter in downtown Las Vegas. Those using street parking, parking in city lots, or lots the city is a partner in, can now use their cell phones to add time to meters.
For on–street parking meters, download the Parkmobile app, available for iPhone, Android, Windows, BlackBerry and Amazon devices, and for the parking lots download the PassportParking app for iPhone and Android devices. The apps will send reminders when your meter time is about to expire. They will also allow you to download your parking receipts.
The parking lots included in the program are the: Goldspike Lot at 208 N. Las Vegas Blvd.; Carson Lot at 200 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; Matlock Lot at 408 E. Clark Ave.; DTC Lot at 300 N. Casino Center Blvd.; Downtowner Lot at 108 N. Eighth St.; Container Park Lot at 146 S. Seventh St.; Llama Lot at 900 Fremont St.; and the Symphony Park Lot at 850 W. Clark Ave.
In addition to being able to add time to meters via cell phone, the city will also begin standardizing meter fees for street parking beginning Monday, April 6. The standardization is designed to create more space availability for those visiting the Fremont East Entertainment District and the Fremont Street Experience, while providing an option for downtown employees to also utilize street parking.
“We are seeing a lot of instances of employees of the various downtown businesses parking in the spots closest to the businesses, creating a frustrating situation for those coming to enjoy the attractions and offerings of downtown,” city of Las Vegas Parking Manager Brandy Stanley said. “We have created premium zones close to the businesses for visitors, and at the same time we have created supplemental zones nearby at a reduced price that would be an option for employees.”
The supplemental zones will offer month-long permits that downtown employees can use.
In addition to creating these new zones and starndardizing rates the city has also reduced on-street metered parking by 91 spaces, increasing free parking options downtown.
The new zone locations can be seen on this map, and are as follows:
• Premium zones – $2 per hour with a four hour limit, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, generally located near the Fremont East Entertainment District and the Fremont Street Experience. In addition, some of these spaces are located around the Regional Justice Center, but theses spaces will be free on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Supplemental zones – $1 per hour, no time limit, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. These spaces are located throughout downtown. Permits will be offered for these spaces for $30 a month.
These new zones will be implemented during April with the first group south of Bridger Avenue, set to begin operation Monday, April 6.
The city is implementing a long-term parking plan with the goal of providing excellent customer service; making parking easy to use; improving financial performance; supporting existing businesses by tailoring parking options for customers, employees and residents; and supporting new development by examining shared parking options and creating flexibility for special events.
The city’s Parking Division Office can be contacted by phone at (702) 229-4700 or by visiting the city’s website at www.lasvegasnevada.gov/parking.
