City Of Las Vegas Safekey Registration Opens Aug. 4
Before- And After-School Program For Elementary School Children Available
Registration for Safekey for the 2013-2014 school year opens on Monday, Aug. 4 during Safekey Week. Safekey is a before- and after-school recreational enrichment program that is offered at 67 Clark County School District elementary schools within the city of Las Vegas. Participants can look forward to another fun and exciting school year filled with CATCH Kids Club activities, reading challenges, physical activities, games, crafts, theme weeks, contests, homework assistance, nutritious snacks and more.
Safekey Week kicks off with the opening of registration on Monday, Aug. 4. Then at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Ward 1 National Night Out Event will be held at Clark High School, 4291 Pennwood Ave. Safekey staff will be at the event to share information and register children.
Registration teams will be out on Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road, and the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave. On Thursday, Aug. 7, from 4-7 p.m. Safekey staff will be registering children at Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J. St., and the Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave. Spanish speaking staffers will be present at all of these mobile registration sites.
Finally, Safekey staff will also be at the Ward 6 Back to School Fair and Movie in the Park scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at Centennial Hills Park, located at Buffalo Drive and Elkhorn Road.
To register:
Ø Step 1: Submit a Participant Information Form for your household to the Safekey Office at 416 N. Seventh St. (between Bonanza Road and Mesquite Avenue).
Ø Step 2: To register and pay, use one of the following options:
o Online at https://recreation.lasvegasnevada.gov/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/wbsplash.html?wbp=1;
o In person at a community center;
o By phone at (702) 229-3399.
Safekey follows the school district calendar and operates on days that school is in session. Program hours and cost vary by site. Financial assistance may be available for qualifying participants who live within the city of Las Vegas boundaries.
Safekey operates as a pre-paid program in which participants must have a valid pass before they can attend. Any child without a valid pass will be sent to the school’s office for parent pick-up. There will be an annual $20 Safekey registration fee per child.
The Safekey Office is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
