The city of Las Vegas offers free concerts in the park Saturdays at 7 p.m. Aug. 29, Sept. 19 and Sept. 26. Open to the public and appropriate for all ages, each concert will offer lawn seating; residents are encouraged to bring low-back chairs or blankets to be more comfortable. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Pets, alcohol and glass bottles will not be permitted in the parks. Everyone is invited to enjoy the free concert by Mullivan’s Edge Aug. 29 in Ansan Sister City Park, located at 7801 Ducharme Ave. This high-energy band brings a stage full of instruments as well as favorite traditional Celtic tunes. The quartet, Beth Mullaney (vocals, mandolin, guitar, Irish tenor banjo, harmonica, bodhran and spoons), Nannette Fortier (percussion – djembe, cajon, bodhran, spoons, washboard; tin whistle, guitar and melodica), Anne Donohue (vocals, guitar and bass) and Marlo Zemartis (violin) are nationally acclaimed professional musicians with a flair for Irish music. Save Sept. 19, for the “Dangerous Curves: Women in Music” concert at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park, located at 720 Twin Lakes Drive. One of Las Vegas’ acclaimed female trios, Dangerous Curves is known for spectacular powerhouse vocals and delicious harmonies. Lisa Smith (soprano), Margaret Menzies (mezzo soprano) and Karen Michaels (alto), along with a four-piece band, will easily navigate through the popular jazz music of yesterday. Sept. 26, Earth Rising will perform a rock and pop concert at Huntridge Circle Park, located at 1251 S. Maryland Parkway. This Las Vegas-based independent band includes members Rachel Delgado (vocals/keyboards), EJ Delgado (guitar), Alex LeCavalier (bass), Luis Mendez (percussion/synthesizer) and Jon Whisenant (drums). Their music has been featured on KOMP 92.3’s “Homegrown” show and other stations in Las Vegas and around the globe. They have received acclaim in music festivals such as Indie Music Fest 2012 and Hard Rock Live Las Vegas. Members of the band have played for various bands, including Blue Man Group, Third Eye Blind, the Scoundrels, and Darby O’Gill and the Little People.
