City Of Las Vegas Offers Free Public Art And Arts Marketing Lectures
Downtown April 1 & 16 At The Historic Fifth Street School
The adult public is invited to three different free art lectures at the Historic Fifth Street School in downtown Las Vegas in April. The school is located at 401 S. Fourth St. Limited free parking is available in the school lot. Metered parking is located in the lot on the southeast corner of Clark Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, at City Centre across Fourth Street, and in the neighborhood around the school.
Seattle artist Norie Sato will discuss the field of public art and her many public projects Wednesday, April 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sato has been active in the Seattle art scene since the 1970s, creating sculptures and two-dimensional works that utilize a wide variety of materials. Her works are located throughout the country. She has earned four coveted Year in Review Award from Americans for the Arts, served as a member of the Public Art Network Council and as a Seattle Arts Commissioner. Sato recently received the 2014 Public Art Network Award in recognition of her contributions to the public art community. For more information on the artist, visit http://www.noriesato.com/.
Seattle artist Dan Corson will discuss his public art projects, which straddle the disciplines of art, theatrical design, architecture and landscape architecture, Thursday, April 16, starting at 6:30 p.m. Corson’s projects have ranged from complex rail stations and busy public intersections to quiet meditation chambers and galleries. He has been honored with eight Public Art Network Year-in-Review National Awards and has partnered with architects and landscape architects for another seven awards. Corson is particularly interested in green design and new technologies. He currently is a Seattle Arts Commissioner and the current chairman of the Seattle Public Art Committee.
