In the heart of UNLV’s campus, Southern Nevada residents can commemorate Earth Day, learn how to live a sustainable lifestyle and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our community at the 18th annual Festival of Communities and the fifth annual GREENFest Earth Day Festival at UNLV on Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Both events and parking are free and open to the public.

Brought to you by the GREEN Alliance and Republic Services, GREENFest unites with UNLV’s Festival of Communities to celebrate culture, sustainability and our community. GREENFest provides the opportunity for southern Nevada’s sustainable community to gather and unite to honor Earth Day and all it means to our local community. Our collaborative community partners present ways to become more sustainable as they showcase their meaningful work. This event is a zero waste event, one hundred percent powered by solar energy and features environmental topics and exhibits, culture, recycling, renewable energy, innovation and resources to create a more enjoyable and healthy lifestyle. At Festival of Communities, you will find students and local communities highlighting the rich cultural diversity of the Las Vegas Valley.
GREENFest and Festival of Communities will be featuring a variety of kid-friendly activities in the Kids Discovery and Fun Zone, scavenger hunt with giveaways, live entertainment, repurposed fashion show, food from around the world, a beer garden, farmers market, green building and smart energy exhibits, health and wellness exhibitors, local arts and crafts, CCSD recycling art contest, electric bike and cyclery rides, clean vehicle display and test drives, home and garden exhibits, pet adoption, Republic Services recycling exhibit, Sprint cell phone recycling collection, and drawings for prizes throughout the day. Live education series and “eco-talks” will be featured by NV Energy and Southwest Gas discussing rebates and ways to conserve energy, Southern Nevada Water Authority discussing the Water Smart Program and rebates, and a solar power 101 presentation.
New to GREENFest this year is the Drive Electric Las Vegas parade featuring natural gas and electric vehicles. Procession will start at Town Square Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. and proceed to GREENFest at UNLV’s campus where the cars will be featured in the Thomas & Mack parking lot during the festival. UNLV’s Festival of Communities began in the spring of 2007. The event was created to celebrate and demonstrate the rich cultural diversity of UNLV and the Las Vegas valley. The program has grown from a few dozen booths and 1000 participants to a celebration that now features more than 180 booths and attracts more than 7,000 to the UNLV campus each spring.
