Pennsylvania Resident Wins $1 Million First Prize At DraftStreet Fantasy Football Championship
Larry Seigle Becomes Instant Millionaire in Taking Home the Largest Prize Ever in a Fantasy Football Competition
LAS VEGAS, Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Larry Seigle of Newtown, Pennsylvania, won the second annual DraftStreet Fantasy Football Championship, beating out 32 other competitors from around the country to take home the $1 million first prize. While millions of fantasy football players across the country battled for their season-long league championship against friends and colleagues, Seigle is the only champion this week who can now call himself a millionaire. The $1 million is part of more than $10 million paid out by DraftStreet in total during the 2013 football season.
The DraftStreet Fantasy Football Championship took place at Lagasse Stadium in The Palazzo on the Las Vegas Strip. Seigle won the Championship on the strength of Jamaal Charles’ 55.5 points, by far the high scorer of any player this week. In addition to the $1 million prize first place prize, Matt Sidla of Wakefield, R.I. won the $250,000 second prize and Matt Renwick of Daly City, California, won $100,000 for third place. The 33 competitors split the total prize package of $1.75 million.
“Congratulations to Larry Seigle on his win and we couldn’t be happier to award him the title of fantasy football millionaire,” said DraftStreet CEO Brian Schwartz. “He’s proven throughout the season that he’s one of the country’s top players and now can take home a whole lot more than just bragging rights. It’s a great story, and one that is only going to become more and more common as daily fantasy sports continue to grow in popularity.”
To compete in the DraftStreet Fantasy Football Championship, players won one of 40 qualifying leagues held from Week One to Week 14. Entry fees for the qualifying leagues ranged from $22 to $420, with league sizes capped from 150 to 3,000 players based on the entry fees. Each qualifying league winner won an all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas for the Championship.
This year’s $1 million first prize equals the largest of any fantasy sports competition. In last year’s first ever DraftStreet Fantasy Football Championship, the first place winner won $100,000.
